Agent Spotlight: ‘Big Wave’ Winner Amy Dunlap How The ‘Zooming’ Realtor Doubled Her Business January 15, 2021 By Liz Johnson Amy was recently recognized as our Big Wave winner for December. This peer-nominated award, gives our agents and staff a special way to thank and acknowledge fellow agents for doing extraordinary work and living out our core values. In and outside of DOBI, Amy is known as, “The Zooming Realtor.” Her passion for real estate takes her ‘Zooming’ all over metro Detroit, where she is known to find the best deal to sell your home, or find your dream home. In 2020, Amy closed over $20 million in transactions and is on track for more! We were excited to get the chance to speak with Amy on her success this past year. DOBI: How did you get started in real estate? Amy: This is my fourth year in real estate. I previously worked in the banking industry for 20 years in the corporate world, so I had a lot of friends in the mortgage and lending industries. I actually wanted to go into real estate for about a decade – it sounded like an exciting career that would allow me to travel and build relationships. My first year I worked in real estate part-time while working at my banking job full-time. I would work my real estate job 24/7 on the weekends and on my downtime, and I fell in love with it! After that first year, I saw a lot of potential in a full-time career in real estate, so I quit my bank job and the rest is history. DOBI: How did you get the name the ‘Zooming Realtor’? That is such a catchy name! Amy: Funny you ask, I always get that question, LOL! When I was a teenager I was given the nickname ‘Zooming’, because I liked to travel around, I could never stay in one spot! I guess after that it just stuck with me, and is actually quite fitting for what I am doing now. I am always ‘Zooming’ around town to provide the best possible service to my clients. DOBI: You had a tremendous year in sales growth in 2020. What would you say were the biggest factors that contributed to your growth this past year? Amy: Yes, I have actually doubled my growth this past year! I would say it is a combination of things. The biggest takeaway in my opinion is consistency. Consistently following up, consistently staying organized and consistently having a positive mindset. I also ensured that I had strong marketing efforts put into place this year. DOBI: Speaking of marketing efforts, what types of marketing did you invest in this year? Amy: It was important for me to make the investment in marketing and building my brand awareness in the community. I invested in many avenues from Zillow to shopping cart ads within local stores. I also went knocking on doors, and sent out fliers and calendars. Investing in marketing is something I definitely recommend for any agent. DOBI has been a great resource whenever I needed a shopping cart ad or a flier designed! DOBI: What are your goals for the coming year? Amy: You know, even though I doubled my business year over year, my mindset toward success is to take things day-by-day. I do believe you should look at the big picture and set large goals, however striving to be the best version of myself one day at a time helps me to stay organized and keep a positive mindset. Overall, it’s a complete mindset – each month, day, second and moment matters and I believe in making the most of it. DOBI: What piece of advice would you give to other agents wanting to grow their business? Amy: I actually get this question a lot -even from other DOBI agents! I love that here at DOBI we cheer each other on, collaborate and work toward a common goal. For me, I say a lot of prayers, maintain a positive attitude and use that to overcome any obstacles. My advice is to make a to-do list every day and keep it on the forefront of your mind daily. I don’t go to bed until my to-do list is complete for the day! DOBI: How do you overcome obstacles and challenges? Amy: I think of myself as a fighter! I think the biggest piece of advice I can give to someone is to stay plugged in – don’t get discouraged. You just have to continue to work through obstacles because life will throw you curveballs and they will only make you stronger. DOBI: What is one thing other people don’t know about you, that you’d like to share? Amy: Speaking of being a fighter, when I was born I was born premature at 1lb. 8 oz. As a baby, I had to fight my way through 3 months. The doctors said I wasn’t going to live – but here I am! I use that purpose in life to overcome and ‘fight’ through any obstacles I face. I am grateful for each day and live life to the fullest. DOBI: One final question. Why DOBI? Amy: The initial thing that drew me to DOBI was that it was centrally located in the metro Detroit area and close to my family. I loved the way our CEO Simon Thomas, had built the business and several confirmations led me there. I am a big believer in confirmations. I looked at DOBI for over a year, and knew it was the place to be. From the flow of the open-concept office, which fosters collaboration, the positive energy of the staff and agents, and overall how the team works and supports each other. Best decision ever!
