Tis’ the season! 🎄🌟 We have (finally) entered into December. While COVID-19 has put a halt to many major events this year, we are sharing with you local, family, and COVID-friendly activities around town – so mark your calendars! 

Birmingham, MI:

  • December 12th: Kettle Corn + Shop Local: Stop by the Birmingham tent at the corner of Maple and Old Woodward to pick up some complimentary freshly popped kettle corn* while you shop in downtown Birmingham and support the local economy! Find unique gifts for everyone on your list. The day also features fun activities including Santa’s House and Scavenger Hunt. *Kettle Corn will be popped and distributed from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. while supplies last.   • Weekends of November 28th – December 20th: Downtown Birmingham Scavenger Hunt: Explore the heart of downtown Birmingham and see some of the newest stores in Birmingham with your family as you compete in a scavenger hunt presented by Chief Financial Credit Union. Teams of 4-6 will download an app on a mobile device and work to earn points by figuring out clues and completing tasks. This walking adventure should take about 1 ½ – 2 hours to complete. One team each day (Saturday + Sunday) will be awarded a $500 Birmingham Shopping District gift certificate! Click here for more information and to register your team.
  • Weekends of November 28th – December 24th: Santa’s House: The tree has been lit in Shain Park and Santa’s House is open! This season, you can still have the chance to see Santa with your family under the pavilion in Shain Park (socially distanced, of course!) You can sign up here.
  • December 19th: Santa’s Reindeer + Hot Cocoa: Visit Live Reindeer in Shain Park, enjoy delicious hot cocoa and check off the remaining items on your holiday list! Say hi to a couple of Santa’s reindeer in Shain Park from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. + stop by the Birmingham tent at Maple and Old Woodward for delicious hot cocoa courtesy of The Daxton Hotel. *While supplies last. 

In between shopping, be sure to pop into Beyond Juice for a quick bite or dine-in at Social Kitchen on their heated outdoor patio! Bakehouse 46 also has an awesome selection of beverages, sandwiches, and sweet treats! Enjoy free parking in all of the structures in downtown Birmingham throughout the season.

Armada, MI:

  • November 21st – December 23rd: Blakes Cider Mill: Have you found your Christmas tree yet? You have to check out Blake’s Cider Mill in Armada, MI, where you and your family can ride on a wagon ride out to their 100+ acre tree farm to find the perfect tree while sipping on hot cider. You can also reserve one of their cozy, heated igloos to enjoy a meal afterward. They feature their annual holiday market filled with unique gifts, homemade goods, fresh greenery, and holiday decor. You can also pre-order a homemade pie by December 21! They are open every day from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Head here for more information and to reserve an igloo!

Clarkston, MI:

  • November 13th 2020 – Jan 2nd, 2021: DTE Energy Music Theatre ‘Drive-Thru Magic of Lights’: Pack up the car and get ready for the Magic of Lights. This dazzling, 1 ½ mile drive-through holiday light experience features favorite holiday scenes and characters of the season using the latest LED technology and digital animations. Experience it from the comfort and safety of your car as you and your family drive through Clarkston’s favorite holiday tradition. Dearborn, MI:

  • Weekends of December 4th – December 29th: Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village: Head to historic Greenfield Village to enjoy many pastimes of the holiday season. You will be welcomed by the smell of roasting chestnuts, bonfires, and the sounds of carolers at Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village. On Main Street, they will have holiday goods, food, and warm beverages as well as historic home tours. The night concludes with their signature fireworks-filled sky that marks each evening’s finale. This is one of the country’s premier holiday celebrations and has been an annual tradition for countless visitors for more than 20 years. Detroit, MI:

  • November 20th, 2020 – January 10th, 2021: Light Up Beacon Park: Beacon Park in Detroit is transformed into a winter wonderland this holiday season! You can visit seven days a week to enjoy photo-ready interactive lighting like a gingerbread house, candy arches, a giant hot chocolate, and other sweet-themed light-up delights, along with 125,000 twinkling LED lights. While you’re there, be sure to reserve a heated igloo nearby at Lumen!
  • November 24th – December 22nd: Holiday Markets @ Eastern Market: They’re back! If you haven’t checked out the Holiday Market at Eastern Market yet, you need to add it to your calendar, stat! In addition to their Saturday Market that operates year-round, they have six additional markets (free & all ages welcomed) for all your holiday shopping needs this year. The Tuesday market dates are primarily focused on food vendors and are a perfect place to find ingredients for your holiday meals. The Sunday dates feature plenty of Michigan-made gift options including clothing, art, jewelry, beauty products, and more. Masks are required, learn more here
  • Thursday, December 10th: Virtual Menorah in the D: Join Live on Zoom at 5 p.m. in your comfy clothes with thousands of Metro-Detroiters for the 10th annual lighting of the Menorah in Detroit. There is even a virtual afterparty following the event! For more details and to join, head here
