Memorial Day Weekend Events

Honoring Those Who Have Served

Memorial Day is a day of celebration, but also of honoring and remembering those who have fought for our country’s freedoms. We are sharing tributes that are happening all across the Metro Detroit area to pay respect to our veterans and those who have served.

Birmingham Memorial Day Service in Shain Park Monday, May 30, 2022, at 10 am: The annual observance of Memorial Day in Shain Park includes addresses by the Mayor and State Representative, patriotic music, and an introduction of veterans. Civil War reenactors will assist in the service.

A Walk Through History (Michigan Military Museum), Saturday at 10 am: Step back in time with living displays featuring live actors re-enacting different eras of American military history. You will find authentic uniforms and equipment from throughout the decades. Donations will be accepted for admission into the museum. The museum itself will display a special Memorial Day exhibit.

Northville Memorial Day Ceremony at Rural Hill Cemetery Monday, May 30th at 11 am: A small ceremony at Rural Hill Cemetery to honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Hosted by VFW Post 4012 of Northville.

Hazel Park Memorial Weekend Festival & Parade (Green Acres Park), through Monday: The five-day festival is back in full force this year with carnival rides, games, live music, and more. On Monday, a memorial service will be held at 9 am followed by the parade which steps off at 10 a.m. at Hazel Park Jr. High.

Royal Oak Field of Honor (Centennial Commons Park), May 29-June 5: You will find 188 United States flags that are displayed proudly in Downtown Royal Oak representing a hometown hero whose name appears on the Royal Oak War Memorial.

The display is free for all to attend. Sponsorships and donations are available.

Novi Memorial Day Run, Monday 8 at am: Break out your running shoes for a family-fun run in Novi. Participants can choose from a 1-mile family run or walk, or a 5K run or walk. All proceeds benefit the Novi Splash Park. Live entertainment and food trucks will be available for a post-run celebration.

Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 30th at 9 am: One of Metro Detroit’s longest-running parades is back to pay tribute to veterans past and present. The parade will begin on Washington Ave and continue north to South Sherman Drive. Following the parade, a ceremony will commence at the Veterans War Memorial.

Roseville Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 30th at 10 am: Honor those who have served at the annual Memorial Day Parade down between Normal Street and City Hall. Stick around for a ceremony following the parade on the steps of City Hall. 94.7 WCSX’s “Big Jim” will be there as this year’s Grand Marshall.

Memorial Day Service at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Monday, May 30th 10 am: Pause, reflect, and remember those who have defended our nation’s freedoms. The ceremony will include a speech from Board Member Rolf Mammen as well as the announcement of names of Grosse Pointe residents who have lost their lives in service. The service is free to attend.
