Holiday events

With the holiday season around the corner, there is no shortage of activities to do around the metro Detroit area. We’re here to share some of our favorite events and activities happening now through the start of December!

Mark your calendars!

The Great Decorate Event is happening at Hastens in Downtown Birmingham on November 18th. This local event is a holiday tree decorating contest to raise awareness and funds for local foster teens aging out of the foster care system. To learn more and register, head here.  From November 27th through December 24th, you can view the beautifully decorated trees in restaurants and businesses throughout downtown Birmingham. Vote for your favorite tree by donating online. 100% of donations will go directly to local foster teens to use toward their future when they turn 18.

Get dressed up this Friday and come support a local cause this Friday, November 19th at the Little Black Dress Charity Soiree held at the Townsend Hotel benefiting the CARE House in Oakland County. The event will feature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a fashion show presented by local atelier Roma Sposa, and a Monte Carlo Style Casino Night with Roulette, Craps Black Jack & Texas Hold ’em that guests can play for prizes. The CARE House of Oakland County serves children to prevent, intervene, and provide treatment for a path of healing for child abuse. To learn more and purchase tickets for the event, head to their website.

The Downtown Detroit Tree Lighting will take place this Friday, November 19th starting at 5 pm. Festivities will center around a Michigan-grown, 65-foot Norway spruce that will be decked out with ornaments and illuminated by 20,000 LED multi-colored lights.  Be sure to arrive early to see Santa and special guests light the Tree just after 7 pm!

Craving a movie night? Head Downtown to the #DetroitDriveIn located at 32 Monroe St. They are open and back for a second time this year, and have a walk-in option to sit outside with heaters. Gates open at 6 pm and features will start at 7 pm. For more information, head here

The buildings in downtown Rochester will be covered with more than 1 million points of glimmering holiday light at the Rochester Lights. The display will be lit every evening (5 pm – Midnight) from November 22 – January 3, 2022.  Most stores are open Monday – Saturday, until 9 pm.

While you’re in Detroit, check out the Cadillac Lodge and Holiday Market in the heart of the city. According to their website, “Since its inception in 2016, this activation has supported 119 small businesses, who generated nearly $5 million in overall sales.” Support small businesses and tackle some of your holiday shopping at the custom-built outdoor marketplace featuring a variety of Detroit retailers. Afterward, head to the Cadillac Lodge for hot beverages and a variety of games you can enjoy with family and friends. Across the street, you will find an ice-skating rink and a Christmas tree.

Head to the charming city of Plymouth and find ‘Christmas in Plymouth  + Mistletoe Markets’ on Thursday, December 2nd. Mistletoe Market is part of Christmas in Plymouth. Held under the Gathering, it offers unique greenery, crafts, and home-baked goods that will round out your holiday gift list.

One of our favorites, The Birmingham Tree Lighting Event will take place Friday, December 3rd at 6 pm where you can enjoy live Christmas music and the lighting of the 35-foot tree with more than 40,000 LED Christmas lights. You won’t want to miss it!

The Birmingham Winter Market starts Friday, December 3rd at 4 pm- Sunday, December 5th at 4 pm. Stroll through the streets of tented vendors and enjoy food and drinks, gift items, holiday greens, crafts, ice carving demonstrations, live reindeer, warming stations, popular Santa House, horse-drawn carriage rides, and live entertainment.

The  Urban Craft Fair, Michigan’s longest-running indie craft fair, is returning in person to the world’s largest Masonic Temple. The event will be held Friday, December 3rd.  Everything you need to know if you’re planning to vend or attend you can find here

The Downtown Rochester Kris Kringle Market “was inspired by the 700-year old tradition of the open-air Christmas markets throughout Europe”. You can expect to find plenty of shopping, specialty foods, fresh greens & wreaths, and handcrafted gifts for the holiday. It will be held Friday, December 3rd starting at 4 pm through Saturday, December 4th from noon- 10 pm.
