Keep your Home and Loved Ones Safe 🔐

November 15th, 2021 is Home Safety Day! There is so much to look forward to when owning a home, but we don’t always want to think about the potential threats. It is important to be prepared with the proper safety measures to keep your belongings and loved ones safe.

Here are a few helpful measures you can take to ensure safety:

Secure your doors + lock windows
34% of burglars come in right through the front door- don’t let this statistic happen to you! If you are moving into a new home, be sure to change the locks right away, so you can ensure no one else has a key to your house. Don’t forget to reinforce sliding glass doors, too.

Windows are also a key entry point for intruders. Be sure to check locks and reinforce if needed, as manufacturer locks can be flimsy.

External Lighting
Install motion sensor lighting and other ample external lighting outdoors to scare away any potential intruders. Be sure to place lights around walkways, front yard, patios, and backyard areas. Pro-tip: save on energy with solar-powered lights.

Security System
Setting up a security system is key in protecting your home, whether it is more on the basic side or includes home automation, it is important to choose a system you are comfortable with. There are plenty of options and you can even set up smart home automation.

Ensure WiFi is Secure
If you are using home automation, your WiFi network can be used by criminals to hack into your systems and break in. Tips to ensure your network is secure: use a firewall, create strong passwords, secure your router, install antivirus software, and enable WPA encryption.

Security Cameras
It’s never too late to invest in security cameras on your property for extra security and protection. Many cameras also come with a mobile app so you can keep an eye on your home from afar.

Home Automation
Utilizing home automation allows you to have remote access control to your home. By controlling lights, door locks, security cameras, smoke alarms, and other safety devices, you can get real-time alerts to any suspicious activity.
