Fall is ALMOST here! One of our favorite times of the year here at DOBI–cooling temps, fall treats, and the changing leaves. We’re bringing you the best in activities to check out this month, plus our favorite cider mills to make your way to.

HOUR Detroit’s Downtown Living Tour: September 9-11

This event is perfect for those interested in historic preservation, interior design, urban living, and more. Attendees will enjoy a tour of historic townhomes and luxurious apartments. There are options for the general public as well as an option to purchase VIP tickets. More information and ticket booking can be found here.

Birmingham Farmers Market Harvest Festival: September 11

Head to the Birmingham Farmers Market for their Harvest Festival, where you can find plentiful local produce, meats, and artisan goods. This event will feature harvest-themed festivities.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo: September 11

Join thousands of runners and walkers as they lace up their running shoes for the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, on Sunday, September 11, 2022. The event includes a 5K and a non-competitive Fun Walk.

All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and a collectible finisher medal upon completion of the race. The event takes place rain or shine. On Race Day, please plan to arrive early. 10 Mile Road will close for the 5K, so expect heavy traffic.

Entry fees include a commemorative T-shirt, a collectible finisher medal, and entry to the Zoo following the race. The Post Race Party includes food, beverages, entertainment, and children’s activities, sponsored by Kroger. For more information, and to register, head here.

Fall Birmingham Bucks Promotion: September 15-25

Earn up to $100 in Birmingham Bucks e-Gift Cards when you shop and dine in Downtown Birmingham during this time. A great way to support your favorite Birmingham businesses this month. To participate, shop or dine at Birmingham Shopping District businesses, save your receipts, and complete this online form to submit your receipts online by October 3, 2022. You can then spend your Birmingham Bucks at participating merchants!

Detroit Concours: September 17-18

Enjoy a weekend-long tribute to the people who designed, built, and drove American car culture and the vehicles at their heart. Experience an unforgettable weekend in downtown Detroit, just blocks from where so much of car culture was forged.

North American International Auto Show: September 17-25

Come see the city that put the world on wheels putting the future on display. 2022 is the first-ever, indoor & outdoor Detroit Auto Show. Explore nine days of new vehicle displays and exhibits at Huntington Place, Hart Plaza, and throughout downtown Detroit, ride-and-drives both indoors and outdoors, air mobility demonstrations, family-fun experiences, musical entertainment, auto enthusiast car clubs, street food, and much more.

Funky Ferndale Art Fair: September 23-25

Twice as funky as the average fine art fair. The ‘Funky Ferndale Art Fair’ celebrates the edgier work of art that insists on being noticed. Some call it the art fair for those that did not realize that they loved art! At the same time, visit the DIY Street Fair across Woodward. Between the two events, there will be over 200 artists and makers, food booths, music stages, authors, and surprises at the fair. You won’t want to miss it!

Design Core Month of Design

Design Core’s Month of Design will feature over 80 events from exhibitions and installations to workshops, talks, and tours. Events will take place across the city of Detroit and into the surrounding metro area at indoor, outdoor and virtual venues. This year, Detroit Month of Design’s programming centers on design strategies with the capacity to strengthen community resources and mutual aid. Focused on the theme of unity, this iteration will seek to cross-pollinate disciplines so a more collaborative and accessible world can emerge. Metro Detroit Cider Mills: Now Open!

There is nothing better than fresh cider and donuts in the fall. No matter where you live, there are plenty of options available! Some of our favorites include:

  • Yates Cider Mill in Rochester, MI. Yates Cider Mill is the oldest cider mill in Michigan. With six generations and a 160-year history, it remains a treasured part of the Oakland County community. You can grab fresh donuts, ice cream, cider, and more goods here.
  • Parmenter’s Cider Mill in Northville, MI. Bonus, the Northville winery and brewery is open right next door where you can also buy the same donuts, ciders, brews and bonus, and they have live music on Sundays!
  • Blakes Cider Mill in Armada, MI. Blakes is not only known for their homemade donuts, but their array of activities to do at their cider mill. From apple picking to the tasting room, you can plan to spend a few hours here with your family or friends!
  • Franklin Cider Mill in Bloomfield Hills. They are known for their one-of-a-kind historical charm. They pride themselves on their family-friendly atmosphere and exceptional service. You can find cider, donuts,  and a variety of apples and products.
