Your Guide to Metro Detroit Farmers Markets

As we head into May, we are thrilled about the upcoming farmers markets around town to enjoy the beautiful weather and fresh produce.

We’ve put together our roundup of farmers markets around Metro Detroit that open this month to check out with friends and family:

Birmingham: The Birmingham farmers market is celebrating its 20th anniversary this season! Enjoy the outdoor market and shop for local produce, meat and dairy, artisan goods, fresh foods, and more. In addition to food, you can browse unique and stunning floral bouquets, hanging baskets, garden flats, and other plants. Check out their produce guide to see what’s in season!

When? Every Sunday May 1 – October 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Rochester: Head to the corner of E. Third & Water St. to celebrate the 23rd season of the Rochester farmers market. You will have access to the freshest, locally grown Michigan-made products. The market will feature a variety of fresh produce, herbs, flowers, and specialty foods, including gourmet coffee, salsa, fresh bread, and much more! When? Every Saturday May 7 – October from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Northville: The First Market Day is Thursday, May 5, 2022! It will be open every Thursday and features locally made goods, produce, and products from local vendors. It is located in the lot on the corner of 7 Mile and Center Streets, across from the Northville Downs.

When? Every Thursday, May 5 – October from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Plymouth: The opening day for the Plymouth farmers market will be Saturday, May 14th. Held at The Gathering across from Kellogg Park and the street in front of the park, come and enjoy over 50 shops filled with fresh produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, specialty jams, hand-crafted home goods, and clothing from local vendors. Shelby Township: The Shelby Township farmers market is an outdoor market, situated on an impressive automotive history site – the Packard Proving Grounds. Proceeds from the market help support the Packard Motor Car Foundation and its volunteers who are working hard with the ongoing restoration of this beautiful location. Stock up on fruits and veggies and all your farm-fresh favorites – eggs, honey, maple syrup, bread, and bakery items plus much more.

When? Every Saturday May 14 – October 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 2022

Detroit: Eastern Market is one of the most well-known and visited farmers market that is open year-round. It consistently draws guests from Detroit, its surrounding cities, and all over the world.

Each of their primary markets has a unique set of foods, products, and experiences to offer. Here are a few of the most popular ones you can enjoy:

Saturday Market: Over 225 market vendors share their produce with up to 40,000 visitors in one day during our busy season. The tradition of this market has been a cornerstone of the city for 125 years and is crucial to its mission of “nourishing a healthier, wealthier, and happier city.”
When? Every Saturday from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 2022

Sunday Market: Their Sunday Market is not your traditional farmers market. This street market showcases the work of local artists, cooks, jewelers, musicians, and more. This market is the perfect chance to discover items that are uniquely Detroit and Michigan made.
When? Every Sunday, June through September from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 2022

Tuesday Market: The Tuesday Market is perfect for stocking up on fresh produce, baked goods, and meats. This market has special offerings including free Zumba and yoga classes.

Ann Arbor: ​​The Ann Arbor farmers market brings fresh produce, farm products, prepared foods, beverages, and artisan items to the community year-round. Their 103-year-old institution is a producer-only market featuring 120 vendors from Michigan and Ohio. You’ll find fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, eggs, cheese, meat, poultry, honey, bread, jam, pickles, hot sauce, desserts, gluten-free baked goods, specialty food, coffee, tea, cider, home goods, ceramics, cutting boards, and more!
